Tuscaloosa offers a wide variety of attractions for your family. Take a stroll through the history of Alabama football at the Paul Bear Bryant Museum or tailgate on The Quad during a home football game in the fall. If football is not your thing, be sure to check the Tuscaloosa River Market or the Kentuck Art Center and Museum.
The Moundville Archaeological Park
Located just 8 miles south of the Retreat, it is considered to be the best example of the Native American Mound Builders in the country. This active archaeological park was inhabited from around A.D. 1000 until A.D. 1450. You will find wonderful nature trails, an informative museum, and many mounds. Plan to spend at least 2-3 hours at the park when you visit.

Walk, Jog, or Run
This site shows the various running routes we have in Tuscaloosa that will take you past historic or scenic spots.
These are our favorite restaurants on our side of town. You will find these much less crowded than the ones downtown or over on McFarland Blvd. I’ll also list our favorite ones in town. This is far from our complete list. We have menus in your guest binders that you’ll find in your suite upon arrival.
Japanese Steak & Sushi Restaurant
Our very favorite restaurant in Tuscaloosa is located right down here by us. It is the Japanese Steak & Sushi Restaurant. We have several others in town, and across the country that we have eaten at, but we all agree that the best one is the one closest to us! Be sure to ask for a member of the owner’s family and let them know that you are staying at the Bama Retreat. I taught their children!
Our 17 year old son has worked for them for the past year, and the owner grew up attending the school where I taught. So, we always encourage our guests to try them out, but mainly because the food is wonderful! You can get a meat and 2 sides, a drink, and all the soft-serve ice cream you want for just $8.99! They have a fun atmosphere inside that you’ll love. They are located in the Winn-Dixie Shopping Center just 3 miles from us. Be sure to let them know that you are staying with William’s family and that you’d like the Bama Retreat discount! We often have coupons to share, too, so ask us!

Two other favorites. They are right next door to Dickey’s Barbeque in the Winn-Dixie Shopping Center.
For something fast, try them out. They have the best chicken fingers in town, and everything else on their menu is fabulous too! When they take your order, tell them the owner gives all Bama Retreat guests a 10% discount!
Fabulous gourmet burgers at a budget price and great atmosphere! We eat here often. They are right downtown on Greensboro Ave. Be sure to try the Blue Cheese Burger – Kim’s favorite!
We love them when we want a special dinner out. You will need to dress up a bit for this on-the-river restaurant, but it is well worth it! They take reservations, but you have to book early to get one. Their catfish dinners are wonderful!

They are located in Midtown Village. They cook up fresh Greek foods while you are waiting. We love their Pork Tenderloin Plate that comes with 2 or 3 pork medallions, grilled asparagus, a huge Greek Salad, and a fruit bowl (request as your side) for under $10!
Chicken Salad Chick
Also located in Midtown Village! I never knew there were so many ways to make chicken salad! Be sure to try their Sampler Plate so that you can sample at least 3 choices of their chicken salad.
